This post will teach you how to refill your HP 61 tricolor ink cartridges in four easy steps.
The HP 61 tricolor ink cartridge yield up to 220 pages, this cartridge is water-based ink cartridge or dye ink. To save money you can learn how to refill this cartridge by following the instructions given below, after refilling this cartridge the number of pages you will be able to print will be reduced to 150 pages.
This ink cartridge belongs to the new generation of Hp ink cartridges, therefore, it will print fewer pages compare to the old generation of ink cartridges. You will need to refill this cartridge by adding 3 ml of ink per color. Do not mix this ink cartridge with the HP 122 ink cartridge even if they are compatible with the same printers.
The HP 61 tricolor ink cartridge is compatible with the following printers models:

Put the ink cartridge on a flat surface where you can easily work on it, then carefully remove the sticky label with the cartridge number and the color. Do not discard this label because you will need to stick it back at the end of the refilling process.
Step #2:
Fill three syringe with 3 ml of ink each with the three different color (one color per syringe). We recommend only putting this quantity of ink no more no less, and make sure you had removed the air from the syringe before taking the ink.
Step #3:
Inject the ink as slowly as possible, look the picture below to locate where to inject each color. You must inject the ink as slow as possible to allow it to spread inside the ink cartridge and be absorbed by the sponges inside the cartridge.

Refilling procedure for the HP 61 tricolor ink cartridge:

Notes:
Please let the cartridge rest for a few minutes before placing it back in the printer, it will allow the sponges inside the cartridge to soak the ink. You can also shake the cartridge with the injectors facing upwards.
Follow the instructions below if after refilling the ink cartridge you have some issues.
- Remove the cartridge and clean the injectors on it.
- Clean the contacts on the printers as well exactly where they come in contact with the cartridge.
- If the problem still persists, remove the cartridge from the printer and turn your printer OFF for about 2 hours, after turn it back ON and put the cartridge.
